What usually happens in a non-denominational Bible study?
Sunday, October 24th, 2010 Question by Smeg: What usually happens in a non-denominational Bible study?
Last Thursday I was invited by a friend to attend a non-denominational Bible study.
The odd thing was that after some singing, the pastor began his exhortation (that’s the word they used). I was waiting for him to tell us to open our Bibles to read some verses but he did not. He just lectured about what they believed and asked about our religion. Some of those who attended were Catholics like myself and I specifically said I did not believe in their doctrine of once saved always saved (another attendee, also a Catholic, seconded my declaration)
The pastor then tried to convert us but in a subtle way (maybe he was avoiding an argument). He later made us recite a prayer for repentance and then said that we should remember that date as the date of our new life in Christ.
We did not get to open our Bible and read any verse during the entire duration of the “Bible study”
Does this commonly happen in non-denominational Bible studies?
Will,
I know not all non-denominational or fundamentalist Christians believe in the doctrine of once saved always saved, But this particular pastor and the others who belong to his group apparently did.
